Description
Wheather he was 35 or 50 I could not tell. He was tall with a broad forhead, a dstraight nose, firm mouth, splendid teeth and delicate hands, slender and long- eminatly physical serving of a high minded or passionate soul. This man seemed one of the most admirable I had ever met. One strange detail: his eyes, which were rather far apart, hand an almost 90 degree range of vision, this ability was acked by exceptional eyesight. -- 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
AKA: Prince Andre Dakkar, Prince Dakkar, Count Andre Leborkski
Birth Story
Prince Dakkar's mother was the daughter of a Pradhan (Vizier) and of a high caste Brahmin family. From birth she as raised to be a queen. She married The Raja of Bundelkund at fourteen and bore a son in 1829.
On the day of his birth a hermit seer came to the palace and declared that Shiva had sent him for the god's son. The baby would follow in his fathers footsteps and bring be the destruction of both the kingdom, the navy of the conqueror, and yet also be the creator of marvelous devices. He insisted that the child mus tbe raised in a far off land to fulfill his destiny. The hermit was driven off.
Four months after his birth the young Prince Dakkar, was found dead. The younger brother of the Raja had bribed one of the servants to posison the boy. However unknown to both the parents and his uncle, the servant bribed was the granddaughter of the hermit. She stole the prince away and replaced him with a replica provided by the Temple of Shiva (it is likely some magic was involved in this swap).
The young prince was spirited off to Europe to be adopted by a noble Polish family the Leborkskis.
Many years later the Raja believing himself childless adopted a distant relative on his deathbed in 1854 and left the state to the child. The British refused to acknowledge the Hindu adoption and seized the state. The Raja's wife continuted the struggle to restore the kingdom for her adopted child but made little progress until 1857.
In 1857 Andre Leborkski, the well educated son of Count Leborski of Poland came to India, where he was recognized by an oracle as Prince Dakkar of Bundelkund. This is just in time for the Sepoy rebellion. The kingdom rose in rebellion along with the rest of India. Led by Prince Dakkar and his mother the kingdom was breifly liberated. The young Prince made a name for himself fighitng at the head of his troops. However the British suppressed the rebellion, and any hopes of a permenant restoration were destroyed forever. Prince Dakkar fled back to Poland, taking a new wife with him.
Returning to Europe as Andre Leborski after a few short year he became involved in the January Uprising of Poland against the Russians (1863-1865) during which his adopted family were murdered by Russians. Andre, for a short time Count Leborski, also believed that his wife and two children are killed.

History
At this the low point of his life he was approched by Neptune and given the opportunity to use his education to further naval science. Neptune presented this as a positive way to recover from the multiple tragedies that had befallen the Prince. The Prince however saw the opportunity for revenge against injustice and imperialism instead. With the gods help the Prince acquired funds, and began the cunstruction of the Nautilus. The Prince took the name Nemo at Neptunes prompting. Neptune saw the name as a dig at Poseidon, reminding Poseidon that a former Nemo blinded his son Polyphemus, and daring Poseidon to find a away to sink a ship that is already underwater. The Prince saw the name as reflecting his status, 'No one' without family, without a country.
The events of Mysterious Island took place in 1865-1867. Nemo with the help of Neptune was actually building the Nautilus not hiding it. The volcanic eruption was final stage of the ships creation. Nemo's death was obviously faked, and all conversations with him in the book were fanciful but he did save the castaways on several occasions.
Following the creation of the Nautilus the events of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea take place in 1867-1868. Highlights include Poseidon sending the Kraken after the Nautilus. Nemo wrecked havoc on the worlds navies for a short time, proving the concept of the submarine before Poseidon took him in the Maelstrom. It is presumed that Poseidon syncreted him, since Poseidon has developed many of the attitudes to world shipping that Nemo had since that time.
Nemo's children were not killed by the Russian, rather his wife safely delivered them to a family of German nobility where they were raised as thier own before she succumed to sickness.
