<LI><B>St. James the Greater</B>:<UL> son of Zebedee (Heb. "the gift of god", Zebedaios) or Yaakov Ben-Zebdi/Bar-Zebdi and Salome. Brother of John the Evangelist. Fisherman with brother John, Apostle. With John called
Boanerges "Sons of Thunder" for temper.

 2 January of the year AD 40, the Virgin Mary (before her Assumption) appeared to James on
the bank of the Ebro River at Caesaraugusta (Zaragoza), while he was preaching the Gospel
in Spain. She appeared upon a pillar, Nuestra Señ del Pilar, and that pillar
is conserved and venerated within the present Basilica of Our Lady of the
Pillar, in Zaragoza, Spain. He returned to Judea and was  Decapitated by Herod
himself by sword.

Body taken up by angels, and sailed in a rudderless unattended boat to Spain.
Buried in Santiago de Compostela. James = Iacobus (Latin) = Iago (W. Iberian)
= Diego (Port.) Santiago = St. James.

Patron of Spain and Congo. Appeared to fight at battles of Clavijo during Reconquista, and to Afonso I of Kongo in civil war. Known as Moor-slayer. order of Santiago to Fight Moors, red cross fleury fitchy, with lower part as sword blade. Syncreted  San Millan (Moor fighter, aka St. Emilianus, Aemilian)

  Father preist of order of Abijah (did not return from Bab cap). wife also descendant of Aaron. John should be priest. Baptises Jesus. Imprisioned and executed by Herod. Tomb at Samaria.

It is said that the entire colosseum were converted to Christianity upon witnessing this miracle. Author Gospel, Epistle and Revelations (contested may be 3 authors)tomb is located at Selç, a small town in the vicinity of Ephesus.. Depicted with and eagle. Known as John the Divine.
