When Hades, Zeus and Poseidon drew lots to divide up the world Hades received the Underworld and all it contained. In exchange giving up the daylight skies for the dark underworld he in receives the souls of the dead for all eternity as his subjects. He takes is rulership seriously, once something is his it is always his and a punishes those who steal from him severely. Despite his typical miserliness he seems to have rare occasions of largess.
