Elevation to a knighthood does not make one noble, nor are nobles automatically knights. Knighthoods are awards for service to the crown. The oldest are the Lords of Merit, followed by the Order of the Gull and most recently Flora's Most Illustious Order of the Lily.
Title: None. Post nominal letters may be used in certain circumstances.
Style: Lord Firstname
Since the beginning Oberon, and the Princes of Amber have knighted men who showed exceptional skill or bravery in battle. Knighthood carries no privileges other than the ability to use the title Lord Firstname and the right to personal coat of arms. A noble is not always a knight, and when the two are mixed the noble title takes precedence with KA (Knight of Amber) being added as a post nominal to the Lords other titles. A knighthood is often the first step of a commoner to later honors and nobility. Knighthood is not hereditary

Caine has instituted his own order of knighthood, the Order of the Gull. Anyone he promotes to the rank of Captain is created a Knight of the Order with the title and rank of Captain. It is important to note that being the Captain of a ship does not mean the officer has the rank of Captain, most ships smaller than a ship of the line are commanded by Lieutenants or Commanders. While in active service they use no title other than their military one, however in written correspondence they may add the appropriate post nominal initials. After retirement recipients cease to use the military rank and use the appropriate title instead, at least when on a ship of the fleet, many continue to use their active rank on shore. As with other noble titles if the knight has a noble title that title takes precedence and post nominals are used instead.
The Order consists of Caine, in his capacity as Admiral of Amber, a single Lord High Admiral (Lord Chantris), and 5 classes corresponding to the ranks Admiral of the Fleet down to Captain, with no restrictions on the size of the classes, being based solely on military necessity and availability of ships and bases to command.
