Allies are NPCs who like or will assist the character. All allies are created by and played by the GM, however the can be much more powerful than creatures bought under the item rules and for a lot less.
If the player should want a specific person as the characters ally they should do the same as with spending Advancement Point. Make a list of allies and their relationship in order of preference and list whether they are willing to take Bad Stuff for the ally. Descriptions
Some Examples:
Players may choose their characters parents through this method but the must be aware that it may hurt badly since the popular elders may be extremely high powered. When choosing a parent Players should list potential parents in order of preference, and the number of points they are willing to spend. The GM will select the first parent that the character can afford, extra points will raise the "love" level of the parent by 1 category/point. For Example:
The GM has assigned 500 pts to Corwin (he has his own Pattern and is learning a lot), 300 to Caine and 400 to Julian. The player can't afford Corwin. Next on the list is Caine. The player can afford Caine at 3 points and the 2 left over move Caine to the Ally category. Had the player listed Julian before Caine, Julian would have been the characters father, but an indifferent one. Points can be reversed and given back by choosing a point level for an enemy. The player with a real death wish can take -10 pts for a 500+ point Elder Amberite that wants them dead. The GM assigns the enemy. In this case Random, King of Amber, and the character dies a swift death when he shows up in the palace. Taking an Elder Amberite as an enemy is worse than having an equal amount of Bad stuff. Thanks to Cor of Tygers for the idea on doing allies with a point building system. |
