Amber Opened
[18-Feb-2008] I have opened up all the Amber pages for the HCK campaign so anyone can read them. Though it appears they are editable changes will not actually take place.

Amber Done
[27-Jan-2007] The Amber game that I started almost 3 years ago (3/18/04) is done. The players finally all left Amber so Random could complete his ritual to become the real king of Amber. The universe changes so its a good stopping point. Im going to do some cleanup on the pages, and hopefully open the logs up. Ill let everyone know when that happens.

During the night Queen Kelith retreats her army to the prepared defenses at Eric's tomb. This is a strategic location, and the site of the greatest battle against the forces of Chaos during the pattenfall war. Queen Kelith has Benedicts notes on that battle as well as the the commanding tower of Eric's tomb itself from which to direct the battle. The battlefield streaches aout 2 miles from the foot of Mt. Kolvir in the north to the sea in the south. The mountian is virtually unscalable to the west but a gently slope on the eastern side leads to a plateau where Eric's tomb is located. Queen Kelith places the archers and crossbowmen on plateau giving them an excellent position flanking the defenses. The infantry are just to the west of where the slope begins with the cliff to their right and the sea to the leftat the narrowest part of the beach. Prince Kael arrived near dawn with 50,000 of Caine's Northern Fleet Raiders. Their boats are drug on shore into a makeshift wall behind the infantrys already prepared ditch and Cheval de frise. Calvary is set out about a mile in front of the wall, the Okinjo are hidden in the sea shapechanged to breathe under water. Fighting begins when the Moonrider advanced guard arrives:

At midday Kelith sends the cavalry out to charge the Moonriders. The Moonriders retreat staying in arrow range but not making physical contact with the Amber cavalry. Following Queen Kelith's orders not to advance too far, the Flery Calvary under Princess Juliana and the Rangers under Kael begin to retreat. The Lutzgar Knights disobeying orders attempt a charge at the Moonriders confusing the Amber ranks. Prince Kael crosses the beach alone towards the Okinjo to give them further instructions, this causes the Rangers to turn and follow him rather than retreating. The Flery Calvary retreats in good order. Reaching the Okinjo Price Kael leads them in a fighting withdraw back to the wall. The Okinjo take significant losses before reaching safety. The entire Lutzgar contingent is destroyed.

After dark Kael and the Okinjo conjure an acidic fog to roll in from the sea onto the Moonrider positions. Fortuitously they interrupt a Moonrider spell to conjure a massive force behind the Amber line that is meant to attack from the rear in conjunction with a human wave attack by Moonies on the wall. General Godarz fights the rear action without assistance from the main force (see below). The fog causes losses among the main body of the Moonriders and the Human wave falters with its second and subsequent waves cut off by the fog. Those that reach the wall are decimated by the men manning it.

The 2nd Moonrider War: Operations in Northen Garnath

The Moonriders began sending scounting forces north of the Arden-Rebma road on starting on August 2nd. Queen Kelith reviewing the preperation of defenses became concerned at ther numbers and sent orders to Lord Stutley to counter the intrustion. Lord Stutley directed Lord Daniel Greene and the remaining Wardens of Arden against the Moonriders. The fighting took place over an area of 450 square miles. Small units would engage, or flee other units depending on the size of the comparative forces. This sporadic fighting continued until the day after the Battle of the Roads when the Wardens were also pulled back towards Eric's tomb abandoning Garnath to the Moonriders. Despite Amber's retreat the Wardens did manage to maintian communications and supply lines throughout the area during the critical days leading up to the battle of the Roads, allowing Lord Stutley's men to escape a much larger approaching Moonrider force. The Wardens also managed to defend the workers at the nacent defenses around Eric's tomb and denied the Moonriders any information of activites north of the Silver River.

The previous night Random began his great ritual. This spurred the Moonriders to advance. A force of 55,000 Moonriders (Siwahan variety) advanced up the Coast Road at a tremendous speed. The remaining Moonrider forces moved slower up the Garnath Road.

Queen Kelith took up position at the crossroad where the Arden-Rebma Road met the Coast Road. Previously the position had been cleared of trees, and Lady Fiona had prepared magical defenses just south of the road. Almost a year before the Rebman Army had constructed an earthwork fortification around the crossroads. While not big enough to contain the mass of available troops it served as Queen Kelith's HQ for the initial stages of the battle.

Queen Kelith was expecting Rebman reinforcements at anytime, stormhounds arrived from the west just before dawn, and the Okinjo had been ordered to march north from the Oisen on the 4th. Lord Stutley was moving his forces to the crossroads of the Garnath Road 16 miles to the east and was expected to arrive there at dusk on the 5th.

At dawn on the fifth a force of Moonriders advanced across the cleared ground and into the area prepared by Lady Fiona. Queen Kelith waited until the vast majority of them were in the area and set of the magic, which did nothing. It is believed that Random's ritual stopped all magic from working during this time. The moonriders advanced and Queen Kelith ordered the stormhounds to attack the right flank of the Moonriders. Once they were fully commited the Lutzgar Knights, without their commander Duke Guermon who had stormed off the previous day upset over Queen Kelith's overall command of his men, charged the center. This allowed the Moonrider right to swing around and cut Kelith off from Rebma, just in time for the Rebman infantry augmented by an unexpected 5000 Knights led by Princess Juliana Katama of Flery to arrive. Redirecting the Lutzgar Knights, Queen Kelith crushed the Moonrider right flank between the two forces and linked up with the Rebman force. By now all the stormhounds were dead, but had exacted a tremendous toll on the Moonriders, crippling their left.

The Moonriders pulled back to regroup, allowing Queen Kelith to move her forces west along the Arden-Rebma road in hopes of linking up with Lord Stutley. After several more hours of running combat the Moonriders were unexpectedly hit in the rear by the Okinjo. They had traveled over 70 miles in less than 2 days, and the Moonriders quickly discovered what it was like to confront full-fledged shapechangers in battle. Crushed between the two forces over 20,000 Moonriders were destroyed. The remaining Moonriders fled south. Late in the evening Queen Kelith's forces linked up with Lord Stutleys about halfway between the two crossroads.

She immediatly ordered the march continued pulling back to the Silver River and Eric's Tomb. She would arrive there midday on the 6th.

Nearing the end
[21-Sep-2006] The Moonriders are at the doorstep. There are simply not enough troops to hold them off. Kelith, recently declared Queen of the Isles, commands the scattered armies of Amber, the Golden Circles and now Rebma. She prepares to make her stand on the old battle field of Mt. Kolvir, directing the battle from Erics tomb (say didnt he die right there in the last fight Amber fought on that field?). At best she is outnumbered 2:1.

Luckily Kael, acting as Regent chanced a trump to Benedict and got through. Random has returned to Amber and begun the ritual. Benedict is marching with relief forces but doesnt expect to arrive for about 15 days. Kelith only needs to hold the moonriders that long. However Random has sent the entire rest of the family out into shadow away from Amber, its something to do with his ritual, so she has no assistance. Fiona is recovering from overuse of the Jewel of Judgement. Osric is still hooded and chained on Caines ship, with Kael standing watch. No one has heard from Flora since she was sent to Quadus.

The cities food supply is at an all time high, Kael used the Jewel and his conjuring ability to fill the cities graneries. If he keeps this up he will loose the epithet Destroyer.

Futreda claims to be bringing more armies for Amber.

The battle was a crushing defeat for Amber. It managed to delay the moonrider advance for a single day only. While it took place at a well chosen defensible location the Amber forces were simple overwhelmed by shear numbers. There were very few survivors, March Lord Tarik Hammad was not one of them.

Moving Forward
[03-Jul-2006] We decided this week that soon (ok so maybe 6 months at the speed we play), we are going to do a semi reboot. The history will stay the same. The current living characters will become NPCs, of the same status as the current elders. The players will have a new auction and make new characters as a younger set of characters. We are going to try and bring in more players at the same time.

There will also be some rule changes. Im going to start a new section, listed as a new campaign; HCK: After the Moonriders. Ill put the rule changes there as I work on them.

Going on 2 years
[07-Apr-2006] The game is coming up on running for two years with at least 31 game sessions, seems like there should be more but Im not going back and checking all the dates. We started with 8 players, and are now down to 4 active, with two in limbo. The average character is 240 points now. One PC is 1st in strength, and 2 others are 2nd in endurence and psyche.

Both Bleys and Gerard are dead, and Benedict is most likly dead. Osric has returned from a thousand year imprisonment in a parallel universe, and feels he is the rightful king of Amber.

Random's kingdom is in bad shape. The king himself seems to have recovered from his madness but how long will his recovery last? The Moonriders assault the kingdom from all directions, seemingly unbeatable. Ambers provinces are in rebellion, assisted by the Moonriders. At least one of its Golden Circle allies have been conqured by the Moonriders, another is activly working against Amber. There have been skirmishs with Rebman troops and war looms there also as Rebma lays claims to its ancestral homeland and rumors of an alliance with the moonriders run rampant.

Amber itself has suffered a meteor storm, the depredations of a mad king, looking unsuccessfully for the person who stole his wifes body. The city is currently on the verge of famine as there are no food supplies coming in.

Floras abortive coup seems to have been stopped before it really started, and Flora somewhat forgiven, but does she have future plans to rule? Despite her attempt at power she continues her usual hedonistic ways, her latest beau is a young handsome man named Conn. He seems to be quite the fellow, of obvious noble quality but no one knows where he is from.

The Royal wedding of Princess Arowana and the King of Lutzgar has been canceled, in favor of a Rebman Princess either by Llewellas meddling or because Princess Arowana is pregnant by some solider, or both. How long will the alliance with Lutzgar, one of Ambers only remaining allies last once her king is married to a Rebman?

The Fleet is mostly lost, defeated by the vast numbers of moonrider ships in the battle of Sun Harbor, the survivors possiblly abandoned off in shadow by Flora as she tried to help. Caine has returned permenantly to the sea, no longer splitting his time between the Fleet and Arden. He has called in much of the Ambers Golden Circle fleets (of those shadows whose locations are known, many have never been found after the destruction of the Patternfall war), leaving Ambers allies to fend for themselves, despite attacks by pirates out of shadow and the threat of the moonriders. Fleets of other nations have been sighted in Ambers waters on what business no one knows.

The Army has abandoned its attempt to suppress the rebillion in Everil and has been split up to make its way south, hopefully before a full fleged assault by the moonriders occurs. Its only a matter of days or weeks before the forces of Everil and their moonrider allies retake what the Army occupied, those enemy forces having not even been weakened in battle before the Armys retreat.

Julians return and Kaels magical assistance have allowd the Rangers of Arden to drive the moonriders from the forest, or is it just another strange tactic of theirs? Despite his assurences Julian seems unready to fully defend Arden from a full assault. Thousands of refugees from the burning of Rilga still wander the forest in search of shelter. At least Caine is no longer calling for volunteers to help put down the monster Morgenstern who was uncontrollable in Julians abscence.

Corwin has supposedly returned to Amber. Rumor is that he held Fiona captive in the seeder parts of town and tortured her for some unknown purpose. Except for a brief appearence to demand the Jewel of Judgement from Random no one has seen Corwin and whatever he is doing, it doesnt seem to be helping fight the moonriders.

Lords Chantris and Feldane have both fled into shadow. Have they abandoned Amber after all these years? Those few of the younger Royals in the city piddle away what time they have left tracking down noble houses long dead and vanished. Others have seemingly abandoned Amber, including the sons of Osric and Brand. It is whispered that one of the Royals remaining could soon be hung for a murder.

Dark things are said to be happening in the distant shadows. Shadows falling into blackness, people and places randomly swapping across vast distances. Whole sections of the are universe are seemingly just gone. Other shadows men set out for and are never heard from again. Huge armies with powerful magic move through the shadows crushing all who resist them.

Those who commune with the darker powers say that the Lords of Chaos watch and laugh as Amber destroys itself.

Maps
[19-Oct-2005] Added maps of Comoni and Everil, a political map of Amber (see Geography). Got the noble list of Eastern Sea, Comoni, Everil, and Arden done (see titles -> Counties).

Conjuring Circles
[03-Aug-2005] Permenant Conjuring Circles can now be bought as items. See the items pages.

Amber game starts again
[18-May-2005] I am ready to start running Amber again.

Maps
[26-Feb-2005] There is now a map of Rebma on the same scale as that of Amber City. Im not sure about the districts but the location of important places, and size and shape of the city wont change.

New Stuff
[26-Jan-2005] I have added a section on Titles of Royalty, Nobles and Knights. This supercedes the old Nobility and Ranks, which was never finished anyway. Now I need the reverse for Rebma (no communism , everyone is not equal).

A new map of the Entire Kingdom of Amber not just those parts near the city of Amber.

Those with trump decks will notice a new system for them on their character sheets with each card in the decks reverse and description.

Changes
[22-Dec-2004]

Conjuration has been expanded to cover the things the elders have done.

Mirror Wrighting no longer requires Create Tump Artifact.

Badges and Trumps
[15-Oct-2004]
  • Moved the badges page to the campaign specific page.
  • Created a trumps page.
  • Made the Adv Pattern page for HCK more accessible, in line with the other powers.
  • Added several badges and trump by Melissa
  • Working on a new navy page that will replace the old one, and be campaign specific.
  • Destroying Items
[11-Aug-2004] To purposefully destroy an item that belongs to another you must do the following:
    1. Have the item in your possession.
    2. Have a method of destroying the item physically.
    3. Lose points equal to 1/2 the cost of the item by spending XP or using an equivalent item against it (Army vs Army destroying each other).

    Kolvir
[27-Jul-2004] A map of Kolvir. Including touristy spots.

Colors in the city are districts from the castle: Noble District, Embassy District (Green), Lower Stair District (Red), Great Gate District (Yellow), Upper City (purple), Lower City (Yellow), Unicorn District (Gold), South Harbor (Grey), Docks (Dark Blue), Naval Yards (Lt. Blue).

Some are obviously somewhat restrictive: the Noble District, Embassy District, Naval Yards and Docks. The others are generally open but have different characters, the higher on te mountain the more affluent.

    Timelog
[22-Jul-2004] The Thursday people (and only them cause I like them better) now have a new section under thier page called Timelog where they can see the log I have for what there character has done. Yes there are gaps, and probably some mistakes.

    The plan is

  • Add the info for the Saturday people.
  • Make it so you can add notes to each section.
  • Add a notation for all the characters that share the scene.
  • Dinner Menu
    [22-Jul-2004] Dinner Menu by Leslie.
